Mind Boosters: A Guide to Natural Supplements That Enhance Your Mind, Memory, and Mood

Everyone forgets things sometimes. But do you ever feel like you can't keep track of simple things like acquaintances' names, your car keys, and the two things you needed to pick up on the way home? As America's population ages, more and more people are struggling with the fact that their memory and mental power are not that they used to be. Maybe you've tried "exercising" your mind, or maybe you've just started keeping better "to do" lists. But a proven way to improve your mind, memory and mood is to feed your brain the nutrients it needs to function at its peak performance level. Over the past few years, scientists have discovered dozens of new supplements that enhance and sharpen memory, intelligence, vision, and mental performance. In Mind Boosters, one of the world's most respected nutritional experts examines the very latest research on these breakthrough brain nutrients, amino acids, herbs, and hormones. Along with a scientific and practical evaluation of their benefits and risks, Dr. Sahelian explains how to combine mind-boosting supplements to help patients with Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, depression as well as those with normal age-related mental decline. People of all ages can benefit from the sensible, step-by-step programs tailored to the differing needs of the young, the middle aged and the elderly.

From Booklist Physician Sahelian begins his coverage of chemicals, vitamins, and psychoactive herbs that can help improve the mind with a brief account of the brain and how it works. He then describes 15 categories of substances in detail and discusses how specific diseases can be helped by using such substances. He outlines supplement programs, rather analogous to car maintenance routines, for different age groups. Although he draws on many experts, he also cites his own experience, which removes the brackish taste of the textbook from the tome. One of his major points is not to dismiss cholesterol and other fats out of hand, because brain lipids need a supply of these to do their vital work. Tied to that caution is Sahelian's vigorous objection to "brain-busters," such as sedatives, sleeping pills, and anticholesterol drugs, whose long-term use can cause the brain to slow down and produce confusion. For McGinley MD "Mind Boosters" by Dr. Ray Sahelian, starting today, is the most authoritative and detailed book about how food and herbal supplements can affect your mental performance. As the cover suggests, the mind, memory and mood can be profoundly influenced by what you have in your body, is one of a number of important herbs, tinctures and many supplements and drugs found in specialty shops, and more often, even when the supermarket. I really like the fluidity of the writing style. If you took the restrictions and said business author, "Okay, doctor, I want you to stick to the basics and use simple English so that everyone could understand. "Especially useful is the information that other books leave by their ignorance, while Dr. The Sahel 30 - 40 names and letters of specific hormones, neurotransmitters, enzymes and other essential substances, or body fluids that have no other name, is exactly the information I need for my research, and whether or not doing research or simply want improve your overall health, what is really missing out on valuable information if you have not read this book. For each subject, the author has sub-themes of the precautions and side effects, recommendations and personal anecdotes filled with specific information about the substance or the vitamin in question. Dr. Sahel, for example, is a firm believer that many people suffer from unnecessary stress and anxiety, simply because they can supplement their diet with B vitamins, and also that no "good" cholesterol, or omega-3 fatty class. I was pleased that I took the lecithin, a natural source of choline, a fat emulsifier and recall of the brain for over twenty years and is one of the reasons why I have an excellent memory - not to mention the clarity of thought and good concentration not only that, supplements such as lecithin, flax and omega-3 class helps balance your cholesterol. Did you know that all cholesterol is "bad?" We need balance, and the need to focus on low-density lipoprotein? Continue to read this book, do what it says, should live well and your normal life expectancy. "Mind Boosters" will strengthen or reinforce your knowledge of what might need to know more about your life. Many emotional problems, which I emphasize in my fourth book, High Liner: to drive the nature, philosophy and science are, in principle, every pound of lead or other known driver education program, but I is irrefutable links between foods, moods, herbal supplements and driving behaviors, or simply human behavior in general, Dr. Sahelian is the authority on how neurotransmitters and hormones and neurotransmitters play a central role in the regulation of the body and fight to keep a precise balance biochemistry upright. Dr. Sahelian points to the role of St. John's wort, ginkgo biloba, 5-HTP, GABA, kava, and much more, including the role of fats in the diet (did you know that the brain consists of fat 60%?). All this is perfectly matched to the 22 chapters. Part I begins with the start ", use your brain ..." A herbal reference based on science Linda Zarei One of the reasons why I like this book is that it is based on science, not opinion, anecdote and conventional wisdom when patients ask what kind of herbs would be best to use for a specific disorder, is book in a format that makes it easy for me to quickly look up the license and then it lists important natural treatments. Scientific evidence is then presented to the most important natural treatments to justify. It is a book that I take every time I work at the pharmacy and my patients appreciate concise answers that can be supported scientifically. The price of the book is also a plus and makes it even more attractive. 6 of 6 people found this review helpful. By that I mean it was not too finely, as you might find in a medical text, it was not to outline how you see so many used texts in those days. The Health Benefits of Ribose: The All-natural Energy Booster

This clear, concise new book by Professor Emeritus Paul Addis discusses the importance of ribose, a naturally occurring sugar produced in the body from glucose. This slowly produced sugar is the structural backbone of ATP (adenosine triphosphate), the energy molecule that powers all the body's cells, and is a pivotally important part of DNA, the body's information library known as the genetic code. Ribose has received increased attention recently because research has shown that, although it is essential for literally thousands of functions in all the cells and tissues, it is in short supply in the body. The sudden interest in ribose is also fueled by the constant stress many people now live with. Stress depletes the body's stores of ribose, and they can't be naturally replaced fast enough to maintain optimal health. The author says that restoring adequate levels of ribose to the body through supplementation is extremely beneficial in treating or preventing disorders such as chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, congestive heart failure, and ischemic heart disease. With brain metabolism and neurological disorders, people who have Alzheimer's disease or Parkinson's disease have shown demonstrablly low levels of ATP. Supplementing with ribose has raised these lowered levels, and accoding to one theory, has even boosted the energy of brain tissue. Ribose also acts to control appetite and weight gain, and helps the body maintain a normal blood-sugar level, making it useful in treating diabetes. Another major benefit is how well it protects muscles from fatigue and soreness when they have been pushed to the limit in exercise. Ribose is a true rejuvenator that enhances health and wellness, and one small daily dose will give you more energy, help you think more clearly, and make you feel less pressured than you ever dreamed possible.

Although the concept is not universally accepted by physicians and scientists—in fact, it was often ridiculed—inflammation has now made it into the accepted list of causative factors in aging and disease. A quick look at the National Library of Medicine Web site reveals hundreds of studies verifying this, including a recent study reported by the University of Texas Department of Physiology stating that “the activation of inflammatory genes acts as a bridge linking normal aging to pathological processes.” Another recent study, this one out of Columbia University, found that “with most age-associated diseases, individuals manifest an underlying chronic inflammatory state. . . .”In each of my books I have set forth strategies to combat this inflammation. As inflammation and its destructive effects have become widely recognized and accepted, many leading scientists are making it the focus of their research. Now my goal, in addition to learning how to prevent and reverse inflammation in our daily lives, is to build on my previous work and go even deeper than I have before. Exciting new scientific developments are showing us that there is even more we can do—we can actually rebuild our bodies on a cellular level. Brain, bone, muscle, and skin can all benefit in a process known as cellular rejuvenation.Once the realm of salesmen of questionable supplements and potions, the field of anti-aging has now taken its place at the forefront of legitimate scientific research. Each day new reports on studies are published, studies showing that science is on the brink of learning how to trigger the cellular self-repair mechanisms that appear to be a driving force in life extension. In this book we will explore multiple disciplines, all of which are accessible to everyone. We will learn how cellular rejuvenation works; it is a new and exciting science that will restore mental and physical health to all areas of the body, both inside and outside. For the first time we have the means and the methods to stop age- related decline of all organ systems. Some of our tools are thousands of years old, long forgotten and ready to be reintroduced in this book, while others are current discoveries. Together they provide us with up-to-the-minute strategies to both delay and reverse the negative effects of aging. In researching and writing this book, I have found numerous approaches that greatly enhance our ability to delay (and prevent) the onset of the undesirable effects of aging. There are proven foods, botanicals, and nutritional supplements that offer genuine physical and mental restorative benefits. And while we cannot turn back the clock, we can learn to slow it down—to the inestimable benefit of ourselves, our loved ones, our community, and our planet. A sick and aging populace is the greatest threat we have in terms of destabilizing our future. The seven anti-aging secrets you will find here are your tools to circumvent such a disaster and ensure healthy, happy, active years for decades to come.Which brings us to secret 1: Jump-start your cellular metabolism. The Mighty MitochondriaThere’s a reason I’m starting this book with the mitochondria. They’re the part of the cell that creates energy, the very foundation of cellular rejuvenation. A young cell is characterized by optimal energy production. Slow down that production, and you begin the aging process. The goal, therefore, is to rev up your cellular metabolism— the chemical and physiological processes by which the body builds and maintains itself and by which it breaks down food and nutrients to produce energy. To understand the concepts of cellular metabolism and rejuvenation, we need to understand the inner workings of the cell—in particular, the mitochondria, sometimes called the “cellular power plants” because they metabolize food-derived chemicals to produce energy. Mitochondria are responsible for converting nutrients and oxygen into the energy-yielding molecule adenosine triphosphate (ATP) to fuel the cell’s activities. Without energy, the cell can no longer repair itself, resulting in cellular breakdown. One of the things that makes the mitochondria unique is that they have their own set of DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) molecules. We are all familiar with DNA, which is the material inside the nucleus of cells that carries genetic information. But what many people are not aware of is that the mitochondria also contain DNA, above and beyond the DNA found in the nucleus of the cell. Unfortunately, the primary site of damage to the cell is in the DNA found in the mitochondria. The DNA in the mitochondria is at exceptional risk because of the free radicals produced in this tiny furnace during energy production. The cell automatically fixes much of the damage done to nuclear DNA; however, the DNA in the mitochondria cannot be as readily fixed. Therefore, extensive DNA damage accumulates over time and shuts down the mitochondria, causing the cells to die and the organism to age. There have been many theories of aging; one of the most significant is the free-radical theory proposed by Denham Harman, M.D., Ph.D. A free radical is a molecule that is missing an electron in its outer orbit. Dr. Harman first suggested that free radicals alter the molecular structure of the cell, causing damage to the cell. They do this by stealing their missing electron from other molecules to complete their outer orbit. In other words, free radicals are molecules that want to join with other molecules, and by doing so they cause cellular damage. As is often the case with pioneering work in the scientific worlds, Dr. Harman’s theories were essentially ignored for decades. However, scientists now recognize and acknowledge the importance of free radicals in the aging process. It is also well established that free radicals play an active role in very diverse, age-related diseases. In my first book, The Wrinkle Cure, I introduced Dr. Harman’s free- radical theory of aging and proposed that free radicals initiate the inflammatory process that is ultimately responsible for aging and age- related disease. The Inflammation Theory of AgingThe majority of the free radicals are derived from oxygen. Thus, the damage being done by these free radicals is known as oxidative damage. When a cell has a high level of free radicals present, we call this oxidative stress, and oxidative stress leads to the production of chemicals that create inflammation within the cell. This process is a vicious cycle, as free radicals can initiate inflammation and inflammation can initiate the production of free radicals. The scientists who argue in favor of the free-radical theory of aging must now go beyond this premise if we are to stop and help reverse cellular degeneration. Free radicals exist only for a nanosecond and therefore do very little direct damage to cellular molecules. However, what they do accomplish, in their very brief life, is the initiation of an inflammatory cascade, which can continue for hours or even days. The long life of the inflammatory cascade results in most of the cellular damage that leads to aging and age-related diseases.Fortunately for us, our bodies already contain certain defenses against free radicals and inflammation. Our bodies can actually make a variety of enzyme antioxidants that suppress or alter free radicals. (An enzyme is a protein that accelerates the rate of chemical reactions.) They are referred to as endogenous antioxidants because they are made internally by the body. Another way of obtaining antioxidants is through our diet or by taking nutritional supplements. We call these exogenous antioxidants because they come from outside of the body. We are all familiar with many of these antioxidants, such as vitamins C and E, as well as the multitude of phytonutrients that are available in fresh fruits and vegetables.Antioxidants are critical in anti-aging medicine because they act as natural anti-inflammatories, giving us protection against the inflammation initiated by free radicals that causes cellular damage. When this damage occurs internally to our vital organs, such as the brain, it results in problems such as Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s, and dementia. It can also damage the lungs, resulting in decreased respiratory function, as well as the heart and the kidneys. And it is not just our internal organs that suffer. Free-radical damage and inflammation is apparent in our appearance with each passing year. It manifests in very visible damage to skin, resulting in the thinning of the skin, deep lines, wrinkles, sagging, and loss of tone, texture, and radiance. Negative changes in our muscle mass, known as sarcopenia, along with the loss of critical bone mass (osteopenia and osteoporosis), also occur. Each of these changes, whether external or internal, is the initial result of damage on a molecular and cellular level.Recharging the Mitochondrial BatteriesNow that we know what causes cells to age, we can concentrate on what we need to (1) protect them from inflammatory damage and (2) recharge the mitochondrial “batteries” to keep them up and running with energy to spare. There are two ways to do this: through diet and through nutritional supplements. We’ll begin with diet. The foods we eat are of critical importance because they either create or prevent the free radicals and inflammation implicated in aging and disease, meaning our diet can be either pro-inflammatory or anti-inflammatory. It is very exciting that scientific breakthroughs and discoveries now allow us to actually rejuve...

Lots of new info + good, updated overview of the basics of Craig Weatherby Despite reading all his previous books, I was pleased to find that Perricone covers a lot of new ground in 7 Secrets, while recapping his principles (avoid inflammatory foods a) in a fresh, streamlined manner salted heavily with new information. I found this information on Caralluma and pheromones (for weight control) very interesting, and found the Anti-Aging Kitchen chapter ... good info on the oil and stews, etc. If you want to work with a personal makeover, this is a good place to start ... understand how diet affects everything, and information on nutrition supplements is very good ... I have the technical end of the addition of more than 20 years, knows the research on most nutraceuticals, and can smell hype away and mil. Perricone has inspired many me-toos, but he is still the best present the essential information about nutrition, aging factors, skin health, and weight control in a clear 52 of 52 people found the following review helpful. Wow - this is the book that I really needed to read this year! By Judith Katz Dr. Perricone, is always welcome in my house! Thank you, I have an "anti-aging kitchen 'like you recommended in the book. This change caused a major commotion in my house. You inspired me to go through the cupboards, pantry and fridge and throw everything not good for me. It was not easy - but all those cans, boxes and jars of food with ingredients that were horrible, gone, gone, and now more than I eat is fresh, sweet, sweet, I'm an active, high performing boomer who does not look my age and I would like to keep active, healthy and productive (I'll never retire!) In my 90 years and beyond. (! Well, why not) I have read and loved all his books, but the last, "7 Secrets to Health, Beauty and Longevity," is that really took'm follow all the suggestions of their own a la carte - food, supplements and exercises included. Ya, and it was not so long ago, I look and feel much better. I am also very quiet. Alegre may be too strong, life is a roller coaster that is. But my sincere thanks for the advice and wisdom. Incidentally, my mitochondria are happier - the "Energizer Bunny" within our cells. I love the way the book becomes even more complex nutraceuticals medical, scientific and accessible to ordinary people like me. My opinion is that this is the ideal book for those who reach a certain age (over 40) and want to hold your energy, health and youthful spirit. Those under 40 need to read the book, I think, therefore they will not want a mess by the time they reach my age, that too many people these days, I had this book 20 years ago, but I am very thankful I have it now, to inspire me to take better care of me for the rest of my life. PS I love my oats pilaf and all the other delicious dishes in the book that I did not even know existed! Congratulations Dr. P! 99 of 108 people found this review helpful. Good for a self-help book, but less than by Todd I. Stark Perricone "secrets" amount to a good diet, moderate exercise, and used in many areas appears antioxidant supplements. I see Perricone lectures on PBS and people taking notes furiously, as if it were some kind of revolutionary science, it is encouraged. It is not. This is an intriguing milidly Linus Pauling-esque theory that inflammation is the driving factor in cellular aging and, therefore, that nutritional supplements can suppress the inflammation and stop the aging process, I do not blame him for the promotion of his theory, I wonder why more people who should know better not to hear the bells go off little warning when they read his statements that could be supported by strong real research, but.

What is mostly lacking is a critical eye to what is included - you have a feeling that to achieve its 150 part article the author has included a lot of questionable treatments and methods, without watching them carefully (eg weightlifting supplements that have proven to have serious side effects effectss (even the boys' T-nation "stopped taking them), hormone therapy for men, the term" subluxation ", which used to be prevalent in chiropractic medicine, but was abandoned by most ethical chiropracters). And while the writing style is breezy at times even amusing, is a bit "also dropped the name (and business friends'). All in all, what goes through a hasty effort to churn out another bestseller. 13 of 14 people found this review helpful. The Human Energy Bible! From Publishers Weekly In recent years, some evangelical Christians have abandoned their traditional suspicions of "alternative medicine" and begun to cautiously embrace the natural arts of holistic medicine, vitamin therapy and even yoga. This A to Z guide urges readers to "take advantage of all that God has provided" in the way of natural remedies such as herbs, vitamins, minerals and water. (Water is definitely the hero of this book. One section even recommends drinking an ounce for every pound of body weight a day during "detox" periods.) Unlike such books as "Alternative Medicine: The Christian Handbook" or "What Would Jesus Eat?" this one does not weave a Christian perspective throughout, but mentions it very briefly at the beginning and tacks on a Scripture verse. The how-to advice is similar to those other books, however, particularly regarding the need for a high-fiber, low-sugar diet. One especially helpful feature of the book is its quick-reference guide to ailments ranging from acne to zoonosis. (Yeah, we didn't know that one either. Basically, it means you got a disease from an animal.) Copyright 2003 Reed Business Information, Inc. Book review by Gaishi The information contained in this reference guide is one of the best I've seen based on the complexity of the issue. The findings are explained in detail and the dose actually reflects an opinion based on research developed by the extensive list of professionals in which all can read the material and conduct its own independent investigation of the accuracy of statements on the basis of the findings, staff qualifications list, and any other aspect of subject. A careful look at the results clearly show manufacturers that produce some very good products. This book presents clearly state the reasons that have adopted what is known as "the combined standard" Obviously all companies (and more than a few) that meet or exceed these standards and do well in this guide. When you make the comparison and a standard is used, there is still some prejudice and correctly that this is a representation of views held at a time specification of a specific group of professionals with the information about the publication, when we published the results many of these issues and points of view as a result of all posts and no doubt change, but for now this is a great effort to get to the facts the importance of improving our views on health. For those familiar with the previous edition, it is clear that the publisher has set the bar very popular method in the determination of a reasonable, separating a product from another, if one accepts the premise. It 'always the consumer to look beyond any prejudice in making an informed choice. This book is educational, informative and relatively easy to understand for lay people and professionals. I congratulate Mr. Lyle MacWilliams in this effort. 47 out of 50 people found the following review helpful Come the end all the confusion ... After reading the evaluation methods, and the fact that the products from five different manufacturers, with whom MacWilliams no relationship (as far as I can determine) are "highly educated", I think it is clear that no indication of any interest some critics that one of the researchers who developed the "mixed standard laboratory" from which the products were compared, the medical advisory board Usana's (this is clear in his biography in "The Guide of the Comparative", so there is no attempt in order to hide this information). The Oral Health Bible

Another health revolution has arrived, says Dr. Michael Bonner in his well-researched new book The Oral Health Bible, and there is no longer any separation between mouth medicine and body medicine. The mouth is completely connected to the body, he says, and is a doorway to achieving peak health and wellness in all the body's systems. This informative book contains an action plan for taking charge of our oral health and it educates us and our physicians and dentists by detailing how many debilitating health problems-conditions such as arteriosclerosis, heart attacks, strokes, rheumatoid arthritis, and premature and low-birth-weight babies-are intimately linked to oral health and hygiene..Dr. Bonner emphasizes the importance of finding and treating periodontal (gum) disease because, untreated, it can lead to heart attacks and strokes. He sees more gum disease now than he did twenty-five years ago, he says, largely because of the increasing availability of harmful oral hygiene products on the market. Mouthwashes, for example, are generally considered trustworthy, but in reality, they are the cause of 36,000 cases of oral cancer a year. Moreover, 500 people are killed annually from alcohol ingestion related to mouthwashes.Dr. Bonner discusses safe, effective oral health techniques and products in order to reverse gum disease with its far-reaching negative consequences. He also outlines how nutritional supplements can help deliver potentially enormous benefits to oral, as well as overall, health. In 1910, the Mayo (clinic) brothers said, "A person with a healthy mouth will live ten years longer."

Amazon.com Review Boundless energy awaits anyone willing to trade their cigs, drugs, or lattés for the healthier alternatives prescribed in Natural Highs. According to authors Hyla Cass, M.D., and Patrick Holford, the first step toward bliss is eating right. In their lean yet satisfying nutrition chapter, they advocate a fairly even ratio of complex carbohydrates, proteins, and fats; plenty of water; high-potency multivitamins; and minerals. After establishing this balanced diet, those seeking to "get high" or "chill out" can select from a menu of natural supplements and substances: various stress busters, energizers, and mood enhancers that research shows can mimic--or surpass--the appealing effects of stimulants like caffeine, sugar, and nicotine or sedatives like dope, alcohol, and tranquilizers. Best of all, these good vibrations allegedly come without the typical letdowns or addictions. Historical tidbits, ample charts and diagrams, scientific data, and case studies from the authors' practices create a compelling argument for natural alternatives, including kava, ginseng, choline, and DMAE. Helpful sidebars outline the positive effects, cautions (rarely any), and recommended dosages associated with each item. Practical, accessible information to help you feel good more of Robert Kall I have known Dr. Cass's work a few years and yes, the expected quality. But this book is even better than I expected, in terms of breadth and depth it covers. It includes mood, energy, entertainment, entheogens, memory, stress busters --- more.Knowing Dr. Cass and many earlier books on herbal practice, I expect a naturopath based approach to natural highs. But this book covers all kinds of high natural ways, to feel good anymore, like color therapy, biofeedback, aromatherapy, massage, meditation and much more. The list of resources and tools in the back of the book is probably worth the price alone. This book gives a lot of great ways to naturally high without drugs. I am especially interested in additions to sharpen the mind and will try some of them. Finally, the book takes an integrated approach to positive states, as an enlightened and positive approach to psychology, the book also explains how to get off addictive drugs. Putting it all together, and this book is a good news. 25 of 26 people found this review helpful. Finally something useful! By one account, do not know about you, but I am tired of books about health and nutrition, to go on and on technical details without providing any real information I can use. That's why I appreciated the direct approach of Natural Highs. The authors explain clearly how to feel better and it just works. The descriptions of the neurotransmitters and brain chemistry are adequate without being boring. Recommendations supplements are white and well balanced. Important as breathing techniques and meditation are also included. This book is readable and even entertaining. If you're curious about the natural ways to relax or improve your mood, give it a try! 25 of 26 people found this large amount of useful information that everyone can benefit. Piercepeter for the first time I came to this book because I was looking for help with the symptoms I was experiencing severe withdrawal from no longer taking Prozac. Natural highs opened his eyes to the existence of not one but several natural supplements that help me to improve balance and blended after Prozac serotonin levels. In addition, many of these supplements are apparently as good or better than drugs to significantly improve problems with depression, anxiety, etc., in the long term - without side effects. This book is well written, well researched and organized, and provides clear and concise easy to read. If the utility of the presence and importance of these natural supplements are better known and larger pharmaceutical companies have less money, power and influence, I truly believe that our world may well be happier, well adjusted and make the site functional all 13 customer reviews ....

Ruderman This book is so useful in cutting through the BS in supplements and give you the information you need to find just the right thing. I'm so sick of the false vitamins, ridiculous claims, the marketing hype. "It resolved ..." gives me the information I wanted to add just the right one. 6 of 6 people found this review helpful. Best book read easily on the use of supplements by Florence Baska is a wonderful book, is presented, complete with sensitive information on medical research in a reader-friendly format .. 8 of 9 people found this review helpful. Fair, balanced and fun! Christopher Gaffney, MPH, herbs and other dietary supplements are widely available in the United States as a complementary or alternative therapies used. Nearly half of patients on alternative therapies for chronic diseases associated with over-the-counter and prescription medications, but only 50% of patients discuss the use of alternative therapies with their doctors. Must make this work (in my opinion) a purpose beyond the obvious, namely to close the knowledge gap that exists between physicians and patients through a rigorous, scientifically verifiable content that is both reader-friendly and useful to narrow. Dr. Schulman inspired patient (in his book) to learn about the interaction between mind and body while using a scientific approach to educating the public about the use of alternative / complementary therapies in the healing process. "Solve it with supplements" provides a thorough review of not only the use of phytonutrient products in practice, but also the scientific principles behind them (not too technical). He even throws in a little spice to the quiz! See all 12 customer reviews ....

Interesting to read, good advice from a customer, I bought this book because I have a few moments earlier (although I'm not a senior!) I really liked it because it was not too technical and easy to read. I like that the authors make recommendations for things to take and what they are. I recommend this book to everyone to increase the memory to be! 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Not a book - a pamphlet by Laura Blackledge-Cohen When you know absolutely nothing about this subject, do not buy this book. The authors repeat information that is generally available in other, more comprehensive sources. Waste of time and money. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Gormley does it again! With Dr. Gonzalez, I was sufficiently impressed when Gormley was a reference to DHA in 1999, but was equally impressed when he came out with this book, the most concise, most studied, the book of consumers and more practical vigorous on the brains, boosting already read - and there are some outside this time Bravo! For a customer who found this book online after buying the excellent book by the author of hypoglycaemia. When you have low blood pressure all my life, I was suddenly diagnosed with severe hypertension (165/105) and before I knew I was leaving the doctor's office with a prescription in hand and warnings of stroke and stroke, heart (29). The pharmacist was very concerned that someone so young to take the medication and told me it could cause a potassium deficiency and suggested an addition. The next day I took the prescription drug (hydrochlorothiazide) for breakfast. Within an hour I had the most dazzling head of my life (I have migraines, and this was worse than a migraine that I did not think was possible), my eyes would not focus, I was going dizzy, nausea. I spent the next several hours is seriously ill until my stomach was completely empty, finally, at 5 pm, I went to bed completely exhausted. The next day I picked up this book and read on hypertension / high blood pressure. I had the most (but not all) of the recommended supplements on hand. I called the doctor's office to let them know that I was incapable of taking the medication and scheduled the following appointment first - six days into the future. I started the supplement program recommended (I have), with the rest of the order. I also started walking 20 minutes a day. I have amended and supplemented, as suggested my diet. When I returned to the doctor six days later, my blood pressure was 138/90. It took five times during the next hour (both arms, and with several different blood pressure cuffs) to ensure that it was a case of some sort. I explained what I had done, and could not find any fault in the board, given the results. Instead of another drug, she told me to keep doing what I do and come back for another one month to read about my first reading was severe hypertension, the improvement was so great that it is mild and I hopeful that it will be even better in a month. Now I have some more of Dr. Murray (and his colleague Dr. Pizzorno's) books, and each is worth 10 times the price. The advice is clear and well written, nor provided you have a medical degree (as some books seem to) or you're an idiot (which summarizes most of the rest). When I received "Dr. Murray natural alternative to over the counter medications and," I looked to hydrochlorothiazide. Although the fact sheet with recipes had not nausea, vomiting, headache and blurred vision as potential side effects, did this book. Each symptom was there - and an explanation of why hydrochlorothiazide increased the risk of stroke and heart attack I'll never be another to take prescription medication without consulting these first two books. Highly recommended for all readers. 17 of 17 people found the following review helpful. In large source merrymousies My uncle, who take vitamins for years, recommended this book to me when I asked for a reference that would tell me about vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids, as well as some of the non-vitamin / mineral supplements . This book has it all and I love how the set - one for each item that gives brief overview of the vitamin is so, the list of sources of natural food, I was especially interested, give the RDA, benefits and applications. He goes into detail, but not so much that you feel overwhelmed with information. Just enough for me. 11 of 11 people found the following review helpful.
