About the Author Susan E. Brown, Ph.D., a medical anthropologist and certified nutritionist, directs the Osteoporosis Education Project/Nutrition Education Consulting Services.

Most helpful customer reviews 159 of 160 people found the following review helpful. Better Bones, Better Body: Beyond Estrogen and Calcium By A Customer Dr. Susan Brown is an anthropologist who notes dietary and lifestyle differences in Western countries, which exhibit widespread osteoporosis, and Asian countries, where this disease and various problems (including menopausal discomforts) seem rare. She emphasizes that osteoporosis is not a normal aging process nor a strictly female malady. She explains that the building and breakdown of bone is a continual process intimately related to many body processes. She lucidly details the mechanisms of this "bone remodeling." She discusses risk factors for osteoporosis: heredity, body type, sedentary lifestyle, SAD (Standard American Diet), endocrine imbalances, and hormonal disturbances (abetted by tubal ligation, hysterectomy, ovarectomy). Brown notes early signs of trouble in small items like weak fingernails, irregular periods, excessive plaque formation, leg cramps at night, lower back pain. She advocates various modalities to reverse osteoporosis by whole body approaches involving maximizing nutrient intake, strenghtening the disgestive system, and developing an alkaline diet. She cites specific studies on progesterone (Dr. John Lee) and nutritional supplements (Dr. Guy Abraham) and exercise (Dr. Dalsky). This book is clear enough for the layman with ample references for the professional. The book gives you insight to what is happening inside your body and how you can take steps to stop or reverse osteoporosis. Dr. Brown's "whole body balance" approach will have you stepping out, enjoying veggies, and learning about soy and progesterone on the way to stronger bones. 80 of 80 people found the following review helpful. Buy it. Read it. Regain your life. By A.D. Thump I purchased this book because five doctors, one who was a Bone Specialist in a revered Boston hospital, first told me my osteoporosis was arthritis, and when I (not them) insisted on a bone scan, the diagnosis changed, and they told me, "learn to live with it. Look how old you are," followed by a kind smile, pat on the forearm, and perscription for Fosamax, which is a drug that should not be taken with your eyes closed. Your bone density will remain the same, but the drug always leads to more brittle bones and it blocks your body's ability to rebuild bone 100%. Within two and a half weeks, the drug gave me shocking side effects, and I was told, "that can't be from Fosamax," an answer that was condescending, cavalier, and WRONG. I was in my late fifties, unable to walk without painful limping, or remain upright more than four hours at a time. Desperate, I surfed the internet for information, and found many sources, including this miracle book. I discovered that my myriad symptoms were all bone related (headaches, gall stones, kidney stones, leg cramps, joint pain, bone pain, etc.) and not one of those doctors knew it, or at least did not acknowledge the condition. My diet was always healthy, but now it is mega bone healthy, which includes foods I never would have guessed (a tiny example: yams, watermelon - yes. Cheese - not necessarily.) That along with changing when I eat (suggested in the book) and accupuncture for bone pain, has restored my vitality, and allowed me to reclaim a productive future. Amen. 53 of 54 people found the following review helpful. Full of Hope By A Customer I felt pretty "down" after receiving a diagnosis of osteoporosis. After reading this book from cover to cover I realize all the things I should have been doing--and not doing. I liked the clear explanations about supplements, alkaline diet, and weight bearing exercise. I'm following the directions, and I'm full of hope. Also I'm ordering four more copies to give to my daughters and daughters-in-law. I want them to avoid that dreaded diagnosis.KCT. Florida See all 11 customer reviews...

OK study guide for MPJE but misinformation and some errors on sample questions By Coopsmama I have been using this book and the Reiss/Hall pharmacy law book and have to say, this one was not as useful. The questions in the back are not really similar to the kind of questions you get on the MPJE (in my opinion) and there was an entire section in the CSA section that was completely contradictory to the information on the DEA's website...for example, this book says that oral prescriptions are permitted for schedules III-V ONLY in emergency situations...then goes on to cover the same thing that CII oral "emergency" prescriptions require. When I looked this up in the other book and on the DEA's website of prescription requirements, it is stated that all III-V substances may be communicated orally, in writing, or by facsimile to a pharmacist, and may be refilled if so authorized on the Rx or call-in, without the stipulation of an "emergency situation." Due to this type of misinformation I would not recommend the book to anyone. They even have some answers in the back that are completely incorrect. 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. I did not feel prepared By B. R. Riesch Well, after reading this book (some sections more than once), and taking numerous practice exams on the accompanying cd (and passing them consistently), I took the MPJE. I am not sure, but I doubt I passed. While the book was quite readable, and better than nothing, there are errors and omissions. Some exam questions were clearly incorrectly graded. Some info in the book was clearly wrong, and answering questions on the MPJE based on erroneous information is a dangerous thing. There may be errors beyond the ones I was able to identify myself, and these errors may have cost me points (I need EVERY one!!!!). Assuming I failed, I have ordered and will read the Barry Reiss book next and try again. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Good Review By Lisa I thought this was a really good review of federal law. The quiz questions were really helpful. I just studied this and the FAQs on my state's board of pharmacy and passed MPJE with a 91. See all 4 customer reviews...

Review From the reviews: “Dietary modulation of immune modulation, immune mediated disease resistance, immune changes due to AIDS, immune modulated cancer therapy, and autoimmune diseases is addressed in detail in this unique new book showing its potential value in maintaining wellness and preventing disease. Nutriceuticals and their components relate to both the therapy and prevention of malignancies. Comprehensive therapists will benefit from broad perspectives explored in this book while nutritionists, pharmacologists, health care professionals, research scientists, cancer workers, pathologists, and biochemists will find the details important.” (William H. Wehrmacher and Harry Messmore, Comprehensive Therapy, 2011) “This book was aimed to provide accessibility of information to health professionals (medical specialists) medical practice, nursing, pharmacy, students and nutrition related allied health professionals. In my opinion, this book is highly appropriate for nutritional immunologists who are actively researching in this field … . On a more positive note, the aim to provide thorough information that allows the reader to decide for themselves the value of specific nutrients, their usage, and risks for the treatment of immune dysfunction, is clearly achieved.” (Andrew Foey, Immunology News, February, 2011) From the Back Cover Dietary Components and Immune Function focuses on immune modulation, immune mediated disease resistance, immune changes due to AIDS, immune modulated cancer therapy, and autoimmune diseases as modified by dietary supplement, bioactive foods and supplements. Dietary Supplements: Current Issues

The use of dietary supplements is often promoted as a solution to a number of nutrition problems, including general dietary patterns and nutrient intakes, malnutrition in the elderly, the nutritional needs in pregnant women, poor nutrient intakes in low-income children, the iron needs of infants after 6 months, and the prevention of diseases. Although there are situations where the use of vitamin and mineral supplements can improve the health of certain individuals, the consumption of conventional food continues to be the preferred method to improve nutritional and health status. This important book examines many of the issues that dietary supplements face today. One such controversial issue is whether the use of dietary supplements should be included in food-stamp plans. Also questioned is the regulation of some of the more controversial dietary supplements such as ephedra, and if they should be available as over-the-counter or rather be made prescription-necessary medications.

Get Educated, Get Better By Kim Patterson Unless you're illiterate, I can't think of a single reason for anyone with painful arthritis to not read this book. It's cheap, can be delivered right to your door, and gives the reader a wealth of info about arthritis. Here's some of what it can do for you: -helps you undertand what is going on in arthritic joints -covers what supplements have been shown to help fight arthritis. And just running out to the store and buying a bottle of "glucosamine" isn't good enough- the book will help you choose specific brands that the author has meticulously evaluated. Dosages are also covered. -provides you with a specific 9-step program -discusses painkillers -goes through the role of exercise in arthritis and how to choose the best type for you As you can see, the book covers a lot of information and is very complete- in fact there's even a section on beating the blues that can affect a lot of people with arthritis. So if you have painful arthritis and are looking for a resource to point you in the right direction, I suggest checking out this book. It's cheap, helpful, and based on a lot of sound science. Other research-based books on arthritis I liked include Treat Your Own Knee Arthritis. 51 of 67 people found the following review helpful. The Arthritis Cure-Revised Edition By Jon Raven Dr. Theo has done it again! Newsweek Magazine was right, "Arthritis treatment will never be the same." And it certainly hasn't been since the 1997 original. The good doctor was the first to enlighten us to Glucosamine, Chondroitin and SAMe, all evidence-based treatments that work. After much ridicule by 'old school' doctors, and manufacturers of traditional pain killers, Dr. Theo's suggestions are now accepted by most doctors and Arthritis foundations worldwide. Much is new since 1997 and Dr. Theo includes all of the latest breakthroughs including an entirely new, disease-improving treatment called AVOSOY. It's the first fully vegetarian arthritis product. There is info on this product at drtheo . com. Also new is a comprehensive chapter on arthritis prevention, something needed badly since 1 in 3 adults will develop arthritis symptoms, and over 90% will have it on x-ray by age 55. This disease starts 10-20 years before you feel symptoms, so prevention is important. The books is over 50% new or updated. New supplements, drugs, diet chapter, exercises and a detailed explanation of how those prescription and pain relievers can accelerate cartilage loss, something we should avoid. Read this book. Thank you Dr. Theo! 7 of 8 people found the following review helpful. What supplements to take, exercises, diet, different joint ailments By Thomas Erickson I suffer from joint pain in the the hands, and knee and have been diagnosed with Osteoarthritis. Dr. Jason Theodosakis book is well written and a good read. He gives massive evidence why you should go on a Glucosamine, Chondroitin, ASU supplement regiment to relieve Osteoarthritis. He also shows the different pain relievers many which only mask the symptoms and give bad side effects taken long term. He also shows eating a proper diet like the Mediterranean diet will help relieve pain and you will lose weight to take pressure off joints. Later he gives a list of other joint diseases and what drugs and supplements may or may not help. Dr. Theo stresses to be very careful about buying Glucosamine, Chondroitin, and ASU supplements as the MAJORITY of different companies products independently lab tested failed miserably as to the actual amount and purity of the Glucosamine, Chondroitin, and Asu advertised. Human Diseases and Conditions - Supplement II: Infectious Diseases and the Immune System (Human Diseases and Conditions)

Infectious diseases have played a dominant role in the history of human disease and medical care. This volume provides essential, accessible information on scores of infectious diseases, their spread through populations, symptoms, diagnoses, and treatment. The text, organized alphabetically, spotlights how infectious diseases have influenced key aspects of human civilization. How the human body defends itself against contagion is also the subject of articles. Which components of the immune system interact to fight certain diseases? How do they triumph -- or fail? Other entries explore bioterrorism, the difference between viruses, bacteria, fungi, and other microorganisms, HIV/AIDs, antibiotics and antibiotic resistance, public health, hygiene, and disease control, and new techniques for the diagnosis of infections. What can be done to avoid and prevent infections is also addressed. This second supplement to the Human Diseases and Conditions is published in collaboration with a medical board from the Nemours Foundation of the Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children, Wilmington, Delaware. It includes about 75 articles and more than 60 photos and illustrations. (20000701)

From School Library Journal Grade 6 Up-While there is a plethora of print and electronic sources available on medical topics, this set was written with young adults in mind. The entries cover a wide range of topics from acne to stress, breast cancer to tuberculosis-diseases and conditions that this age group is personally interested in or frequently assigned. Less common ailments such as Marfan syndrome, Chagas' disease, and Ebola virus are also covered. The articles are easy to read; some, such as the one on diabetes, are quite lengthy; others briefly cover causes, symptoms, and treatment. Sidebars provide additional facts and definitions. Most of the entries mention at least one other resource, and many note several books and/or organizations and pertinent Internet addresses. Lots of color photographs, illustrations, and diagrams enhance the text. A bibliography and a comprehensive index are found in the third volume. A good starting point for research papers and equally useful to answer quick questions. Jo-Anne Weinberg, Greenburgh Public Library, NY Copyright 2000 Reed Business Information, Inc. From Library Journal This handsomely produced and authoritatively written encyclopedia was published in association with the Center for Children's Health Media at the Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, DE. Almost 300 diseases and conditions are included (with an equal number of color photographs, charts, and illustrations), covering such topics as cleft palate, kuru, obsessive-compulsive disorder, slipped disk, and typhoid fever. Reasons for the inclusion or omission of a topic are not given. Each entry, ranging in length from one to eight pages, contains information on natural history, causes, cures, and prevention, when appropriate. Lengthier entries include sidebars consisting of bibliographies, See references, definitions of unusual words, suggested keywords for searching the Internet and print sources, and pronunciation guides. Highlights of the history of medicine are scattered throughout, and a number of lavishly illustrated parasitic diseases are presented. There is a comprehensive index and a brief but current bibliography. Children and teenagers are obviously the intended audience, though any adult would find this book valuable. By comparison, the 17-volume Encyclopedia of Family Health (LJ 3/15/98) is twice the cost, and though it contains 800 entries and is also aimed at a general audience, it is not as scientifically based. Any school or public library that can afford Human Diseases and Conditions could not go wrong in purchasing it.-Martha E. Stone, Massachusetts General Hosp. Lib., Boston Copyright 2000 Reed Business Information, Inc. From Booklist This latest supplement to Human Diseases and Conditions (Gale, 2000), designed to be accessible to both adults and students at the middle school level and up, will help users understand the process of infection as well as specific diseases caused by bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites. The editors are physicians affiliated with the Center for Children's Health Media and the Nemours Foundation of the Alfred I. Dupont Hospital for Children. The volume begins with a series of essays that examines the impact of infectious diseases in history and explains germ theory, diagnosis, treatment, laboratory tests, drugs, public health, and immunization/vaccination. These essays are extremely useful because the explanations are so clear. Readers will learn about Koch's Postulates (used to identify germs as the causes of particular illnesses) and gain a basic understanding of the complex process of immunity. Approximately 100 alphabetical entries follow, covering specific diseases (AIDS, measles, pinworm infestation), general types of infection (sepsis, zoonoses, skin and soft tissue infections), and related topics (bioterrorism, immune deficiencies). The disease entries define the illness and then explain how it is transmitted, signs and symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, duration, possible complications, and prevention. The page layout, featuring wide, colored margins that contain glossary terms, see references, and keywords for Internet searches, helps readers find information quickly. Sidebars with related information and historical tidbits enliven the text. Color illustrations and maps showing disease prevalence help users understand the concepts. All of the entries have brief resource lists of organizations and Web sites. A bibliography of recent books and articles and a cumulative index for the full set appear at the end of the book.Although readers seeking detailed information about a specific disease will need to consult other sources, this volume provides an excellent introduction to the concept of infection. Libraries that own Human Diseases and Conditions will want to add the supplement. Those that do not have the whole set will find it useful as a stand-alone resource. It is highly recommended for school, public, and consumer-health libraries. RBBCopyright © American Library Association. All rights reserved

About the Author Deborah Mitchell is a medical writer and journalist specializing in complementary medicine and nutrition topics. Her articles have appeared in professional journals, as well as national consumer magazines. She has authored and co-authored eleven books about various health topics, including Natural Healing for Back Pain, The Natural Guide to Headache Relief, The Dictionary of Nutritional Healing, Natural Aphrodisiacs, Natural Medicine for PMS and MSm: The Natural Pain Relief Remedy. I don't believe I mentioned my all-time favorite book, however: Walden, by Henry David Thoreau, which I think is a must read for everyone. "Simplicity, simplicity, simplicity" is the motto I live by, and I personally think the world would be in much better shape—spiritually and environmentally—if we lived by the Walden credo. I also think everyone should read "The Velveteen Rabbit," by Margery Williams. Although it's a child's story, it's for the child in everyone. Ms. Mitchell lives and works in Tucson, AZ.

Not adequately researched! By Steveananda This book is overly exuberant. Just like many books in this genre, one is left with the message that SAMe is the panacea the world has been waiting for. However this book fails to mention some basic information about SAMe that is CRITCAL (i.e.- SAMe has been known to cause electrolyte disturbances (especially involving calcium and potassium), can lead to elevated blood pressure as well as cause anxiety/panic attacks in SOME individuals). Do not take without the guidance of a qualified NATUROPATHIC PHYSICIAN! 5 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Side-effects? The Birth of the Hospital in the Byzantine Empire (Supplement to the Bulletin of the History of Medicine)

Medical historians have traditionally claimed that modern hospitals emerged during the latter half of the nineteenth century. Premodern hospitals, according to many scholars, existed mainly as refuges for the desperately poor and sick, providing patients with little or no medical care. Challenging this view in a compelling survey of hospitals in the East Roman Empire, Timothy Miller traces the birth and development of Byzantine xenones, or hospitals, from their emergence in the fourth century to their decline in the fifteenth century, just prior to the Turkish conquest of Constantinople. These sophisticated medical facilities, he concludes, are the true ancestors of modern hospitals. In a new introduction to this paperback edition, Miller describes the growing scholarship on this subject in recent years.

Review A very important book that will be consulted by students and scholars in diverse aspects of medicine... Guaranteed to excite controversy... [and] engender a long overdue interest in the medical procedures of one of the great world civilizations. (Isis )Dr. Miller is a learned and enterprising historian with a fascinating theme. He shows beyond a doubt that the Western hospital tradition goes back to the early Byzantine Empire in the fourth century. (Medical History )Those who look into Byzantine health care with Professor Miller as their guide will gain a much more favorable impression of the subject than now prevails. En route they will learn in this readable book a great deal about other aspects of Byzantine society and much about classical and medieval medicine in general. (Bulletin of the History of Medicine )When this book was originally published in 1985, it marked the first comprehensive treatment of the history of the Byzantine hospital... In a new introduction to his text Miller defends his earlier line of argument in detail. (Lawrence I. Conrad Social History of Medicine ) About the Author Timothy S. Miller is associate professor of history at Salisbury State University in Salisbury, Maryland.

By Geoffrey Edward McCool This book easily assists the student and the scholar in a better understanding of the emergence of the hospital in history. To be enjoyed in the comfort of one's favorite armchair. The reading community can look forward with anticipation to his latest contribution, The Orphans of Byzantium. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Insightful and convincing By Stratiotes Doxha Theon In this insightful work, the author makes a convincing case for the seeds of the modern hospital ideals in the Christian-inspired charity of the Byzantine empire. At times the author seems to belabor the point and that would be the only detraction from the content. The evidence is, however, extensive and thoroughly convincing. An important work for any interested in medical history in particular. See all 2 customer reviews...

From the Publisher 8 Weeks to Vibrant Health is a classic reference for any woman who wants to take charge of her health, find the underlying causes of those health challenges and create solutions that will work for her. Women who complain to their doctors of depression are given a pill. Those who complain of insomnia are given another pill. The same answer applies for fatigue, digestive difficulties, joint pain or other common symptoms of health problems. Yet most doctors fail to acknowledge that these are symptoms, not illnesses in themselves. It may be easier to prescribe a pill that will suppress the symptoms, at least for a time, but treating symptoms does not address the underlying causes of the symptoms, A woman may experience insomnia because of stress, hormonal changes, digestive disorders, musculoskeletal imbalances or a number of other reasons. Until the underlying cause of the symptoms is discovered, there can be no true healing. 8 Weeks to Vibrant Health offers women an opportunity to become their own health detectives, to take a deeper look at their own symptoms, nutrition, lifestyle and, with the help of laboratory tests commonly available to consumers, come to some conclusions about the underlying imbalances that are causing their symptoms. Finally, the book offers treatment plans for eight common systemic imbalances, including effective natural supplements that can help restore balance and return us to vibrant health. This new updated edition includes a special section on weight control that provides some unique approaches to this difficult health challenge. A brilliant book especially for those with mental / emotional challenges By Carol Burgess I feel this fabulous book should have had a different title to include men, as most of the recommendations would work equally well for men, as well as women. I also feel the title should have mentioned something about natural solutions for depression, insomnia, etc. because millions of people are using drugs with nasty side-effects and horrific withdrawals for these problems and are therefore needlessly suffering immeasurably. 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Best New Book on Heart Disease By Robert Sager It's too bad this book won't be read by every primary care physician and every cardiologist and every patient with heart disease, but it should be. The collaboration of two leading edge cardiologists has resulted in a book full of the latest approaches to managing plaques and heart disease. This book moves beyond Dr. Sinatra's first classic, The Sinatra Solution, and focuses on the problem of plaque build-up in your arteries. The latest theory of inflammation as the cause of hardening of the arteries, as well as many other chronic illnesses is addressed here with dietary changes, supplements, and medications. For example, when to use statins alongside the natural supplements for reducing cholesterol and other risk factors for plaque formation is clearly discussed. It's wonderful to read what these two doctors do for their patients outside the box set by the FDA in defining the indications for prescription medications. From my own experience their approaches do work for many people. I will be recommending this book to many patients and featuring it on my website. Bob Sager, MD, DABFM 59 of 60 people found the following review helpful. A great primer for Docs & patients alike, saved my life! By Jill Merrill I have been reading alternative & conventional texts for years and what I found is that when I had lots of health problems the conventional medicine only works to get you out of immediate danger but does not address underlying problems or corrections, and treats symptoms only. After turning 50 I decided I needed to read this book and found it to be a wealth of information. Thanks to this book I went out and found an "intergrative" doctor who did these extra tests and found my LPa's were >300, Normal is below 30 (even though other cholesterol numbers were good). This means I'm a walking time bomb for blood clots to brain or heart. By using L-lysine, curcumin and natkonise my numbers are 45 after 2 months. Conventional doctors don't do these extra tests because there are no drugs to fix LPa's. By reading this book, going to find an intergrative doctor, (one trained as MD & then gets extra training in alternative medicine)I believe I will live longer,(survival rates are low for blood clots to brain or heart). My new doctor has also helped me with numerous other ailments an I feel better than I did 10 years ago. Thank you Dr. Sinatra. If I had not read your book I would never have known about the LPa's. By 2bluesky2 In the final chapter of the book, the authors set out what they call the "four pillars of healing." These are: 1. A healthy diet to help you achieve a healthy body weight. 2. Appropriate over-the-counter supplements and prescription medications for your condition. 3. Exercise. 4. Use of mind/body techniques to control unhealthy moods, attitudes, and behaviors. The main text of the book, however, does not give equal emphasis to these four "pillars." The authors use 2 chapters and 71 pages to discuss over-the-counter supplements. They discuss prescription medications in one 17 page chapter. They discuss diet in an 11 page chapter. They discuss exercise in one short 5 page chapter. They discuss stress management in one 10 page chapter. Supplements get much more coverage than all other treatments combined. The authors acknowledge that heart disease (plaque build up in your arteries) is a lifestyle disease (p.217). They recommend lifestyle changes, but the overwhelming impression you get from the book is that over-the-counter supplements are the most essential treatment for heart disease/plaque build up in your arteries. The authors are so enamoured with supplements, that they give you a full regimen with estimated costs. They estimate the cost to

"You're on the Air with Dr. Fratellone": Answers to Questions Most Frequently Asked About Supplements and Herbs for the Heart

"When my own father came down with cardiovascular problems, Dr. Fratellone was the physician I called." --Ann Louise Gittleman, PhD., author of New York Times bestsellers Fat Flush Plan and Before the Change. Integrated Cardiologist Patrick Fratellone, M.D., has noticed an alarming trend of treating health problems with ever-new-and-evolving drugs--often without regard to potentially dangerous side effects. Studies suggest that the best way to prevent cardiovascular disease is by modifying behavior. Yet society is fixated on obtaining easy solutions, which require little or no participation by the patient. Drug therapy may provide only temporary solutions for symptomatic relief and lead to complications. In many cases, these medications are unnecessary and produce no great benefit. Instead, Dr. Fratellone focuses on using vitamins, herbs and supplements to treat and prevent disease. You're on the Air with Dr. Fratellone is based on questions frequently asked by listeners of the New York City radio show House Calls with Dr. Fratellone. This valuable guide provides answers to the most frequently asked questions about vitamins and supplements for treating the heart non-invasively.

The book itself, i had to borrow from my professor is very long and in depth about law. For the common folk, this book is not recommended, very complicated language used. From Publishers Weekly Fans of Prevention magazine, familiar with its enthusiasm for nutritional supplements, will probably welcome having its suggestions handy in a single volume. Brief descriptions of 16 minerals, seven trace minerals and seven vitamins give for each an official Daily Value (if known; otherwise, the Estimated Safe and Adequate Daily Dietary Intake), as well as good food sources of the nutrient and advice on using it safely. Oddly, zinc is with the vitamins, not with the other minerals. Next is a catalogue of health problems from Age Spots to Yeast Infections, with some entries rather lengthy (Osteoporosis runs a dozen pages). In general, the editors take a fairly conservative approach, citing research studies and noting when findings are preliminary or merely suggest that a given nutrient may be effective. Each entry features a table listing specific amounts of recommended "healing" nutrients, but whose recommendations these are is unclear. Vague expressions such as "some experts" and "some doctors" are used repeatedly, making the tables' value questionable. For getting a fuller picture, the text is essential. Most helpful customer reviews 49 of 50 people found the following review helpful. A concise guide to Vitamins and Minerals By A Customer The theme of the book is highly commendable. There are two parts in the book; part I gives a good summary of the different vitamins and minerals for health and part II provides information on therapeutic prescriptions for healing. Throughout the book, numerous clinical research are cited to support various nutritional claims. The inclusion of some interesting columns such as the "Using Vitamins/Minerals Safely" column in part I and the "Food Factors" plus "Prescription for Healing" columns in part II provide a good source of background information for the topics discussed in each Chapter. Overall, the book is thoroughly enjoyable to read and is definitely a good source of reference that deserves to sit on everyone's bookshelf. It would nevertheless be complete if the author could inform the readers more ways to obtain the various important vitamins and minerals through the consumption or prepartion of NATURAL FOOD than taking the manufactured supplements, though this aspect has already been lightly touched upon by the author in part I of the publication. 14 of 14 people found the following review helpful. worth getting in hardcover By kkrome25 This is a very informative and useful book. Recommended daily dosages of vitamins and minerals are accurate and what is expressed never goes off the scientific deep end. I do wish it had pictures (sounds silly, I know). It's worth getting in hardcover, because it will get a read a lot. To everyone: good health, and love. Peace. 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Everyone should have one.
